SECOND PLACE FOR PATRICK HUISMAN IN BARCELONA!
MONTMÉLO, MAY 09 2010 – Patrick Huisman finished an excellent second place during the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Barcelona! The number 21 car driver started from fifth and only had to let go Austrian Norbert Siedler when the flag fell. The Tudor sponsored Konrad Motorsport driver is currently seventh in the championship with 22 points. FREE PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING:
After several test sessions with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the Hockenheimring last weeks, Huisman was very optimistic when Michelin introduced a new type of tyre on the Circuit de Catalunya. On Friday afternoon Mr. Porsche Supercup could be found at the front when he managed a fourth place at the end of the free practice. During the Saturday qualifying Huisman was quick as well and ended the session in fifth with a best lap of 1:50.806.
RACE 01:
After the lights turned green Huisman made an impressive start. The Dutchman passed Jaap van Lagen and took a fourth place. Than he closed the gap with Norbert Siedler. With an outbraking manoeuvre in the final lap, pole-sitter Jeroen Bleekemolen regained the lead from Sean Edwards which he had lost to the Briton right after the start. But the new front-runner wasn’t given the chance to enjoy his lead for long: Shortly afterwards, Sean Edwards braked too late heading into the hairpin corner and crashed into the rear of Bleekemolen. After the race, the marshals handed him a 25-second penalty for this manoeuvre which relegated him back to twelfth position. Behind race winner Siedler Huisman ended the race in second place!
PATRICK HUISMAN: “What a fantastic race! The competitors in front of me had the advantage of new tyres in the first laps and could pull away. I more or less drove my own race without any great pressure from behind, but also without any great chance of making up positions. It was a good feeling to climb the podium again. Now I’m looking forward to my favourite race in Monaco next week!”
